Around SBN: Terry Collins, David Wright, And The Mets/Brewers Kerfuffle

Say Hi to Mickey For Me!

Jason Quick has a blog update about how popular Kevin Pritchard is at the Orlando Pre-Draft Camp.  (Hint:  It's not because he's wearing Axe body spray.)  Quick has KP talking to reps from the Sonics, Mavericks, and Bulls, so let the "Zach for Dirk for Deng for Durant" speculations continue.

He also has an entry below that one about Oregon guard Aaron Brooks' performance.

Plus, also from Quick, here's a profile of new Assistant GM Tom Penn.

Sheesh, Jason.  Now take a break and go ride Splash Mountain.

He's turning into our own Theo Epstein!
I've liked KP since he took over for Maurice Cheeks as an interim coach so I'm happy for his time in the spotlight.

Glad to hear he's well liked
I worried maybe his luck and bold moves and Wunderkind status might not endear him to the less talented GMs, but charisma goes a long way to get others on your side even when they shouldn't be.

I can't see Patterson being the Big Man on Campus.  Maybe the Big MULLET on Campus!  Hah!  Zing!

Now he just needs to not shower, pump up those pheremones, and sweet talk his way into the pants of Seattle's #2 pick without losing our #1, LMA, or Roy.  Say whatever ya need to, get the pick, then sneak out before Seattle wakes up in the morning!  Leave a nice note and all explaining you got an early meeting you forgot to mention and that you'll call, just to soften the blow... but they'll know it was a one time deal, and that we got the better end of it.  BUT THAT'LL BE AFTER THE FACT.

KP can do it.  HE WILL DO IT.  #1 and #2, 2007 draft, Portland Trailblazers.  Durant and Oden.  Oden and Durant.  Legends in the making on the team of destiny.  Oden can grow a burly man beard and Nate can allow headbands again so everyone can have one and look awesome.

I SAY IT AND IT BECOMES SO!  By the power of grayskull, it shall be so.

Uh
I don't think it's his sparkling personality that's attracting people.  It's some combination of:

A.  That number one pick

B.  The availability of Zach and/or Jack and/or Martell and/or a few other people.

Impossible
Woman want him, and men want to BE him.

The lottery was yesterday's news.  Who is even talking about it now?  These days, it's about being SEEN, and KP is the man to be seen with.

He's HOT baby, out of control!

umm
did anyone else feel a little strange about the fact that Penn probably helped actual felons get free?  I found that a funny thing to talk up considering the recent past of our team... maybe its just me.

In the two cases that Quick asked him
about, it sounded like there was reasonable doubt and so he was doing his job as a lawyer.  At least it seemed that way to me.  The first successful defense case he mentioned was about someone pretending there was a gun when there wasn't (this does make a difference), the second was about an officer claiming to have seen drugs when he just saw a plastic bag (again, it's good to have a lawyer point something like this out).  It wasn't like the O.J. trial or anything.

I'm in favor of people being represented well.
It's the basis of the justice system, otherwise what is going on is that defense lawyers are trying cases instead of judges and juries.

Yeah, Jason, take a break.
If you keep this output up, you'll approach Dave territory for most words a day.

Then Dave would have to escalate his output... where would it all end?

It's scary, that's what it is.

Good stuff, though.

Here's the sort of thing I was hoping to see:
"Ryvon Covile, a 6-foot-9 big man from Detroit Mercy, had 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting."

Every time we talk about who to use our 2nd round picks on (IF we use 'em),
I want names none of us have ever heard of, not our ideas of "dark horse sleepers".

Ryvon Covile? DETROIT MERCY?!? Who? Where? THAT'S a "sleeper pick", peoples!

"Ryvon". Love it.

Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

That's the high school Chris Webber went to.
The guy must have been, um, too academically challenged to enter a junior college for a year.

Nah
He's just really good at math.
