2nd round pick possibility

pritchard has said he is going down to orlando to evaluate prospects for our 4 2nd round picks. this got me thinking.

originally i had thought that every player who could make a difference would be picked in the first 10 spots or so. you know, all the physical only players. but one name on the participating list jumped out at me: aaron brooks.

it suddenly occurred to me that no one outside of the NW knows about this guy. we could package 2 second round picks for a late first round or hope he hangs around for the second. he's a legit guard with a great jumper and leadership ability. he really is one of the most impressive college players i've seen in a while. reminiscent of brandon roy in my opinion. think of those two in the back court with lamarcus, oden and rashard lewis up front. sure, those 5 guys would be pulling in about 65 million between them but... there's no harm in dreaming, right?

I like it...
That exact scenario has been talked about between myself and some friends. We don't necessarily need Brooks to perform right now. IN the 2nd round, we could afford to draft him, then give him a year or two in either the D-League, or Europe for seasoning. I think the D league is a better idea because of the NBA style game and God forbid JJ or Sergio get hurt we can call him up.  I love his game and his heart and think that despite his size he could be a solid point guard in the league. I say draft him, be upfront with him in telling him he'll do a stint in the D League, and in a couple years you've got yourself a solid contributor. Or, maybe he forces the teams hand the way Ime did. Anyway, I say draft him.
Give me Corey Brewer or give ME the pick!

ah...
I don't care too much for his game, another short PG who shoots too much.  But then again, it is a second round pick, so taking a shot there is not that hard to do.

ya not a fan
of his nba game, if we have to use all 4 2nd rounders, and we spend one on him that's fine. But he's an undersized guard who isn't a pg and not good enough to be a 2, and we already have that in Fred Jones.
Welcome Greg Oden

some things i like
He is small but insanely quick and athletic, he blocked a few big men his senior year, and i witnessed him block.......sheesh brain slip, uumm Gtowns Center his junior year. Anyways he blocked him right at the rim on a fast break, it was impressive. And about his scoring too much, that was his role when he played at oregon, but his assist to turnover ratio has always been very good. I think he can play in the NBA and play very well.

I think 2nd round guys we should look at
Are Reyshawn Terry and/or Ron Lewis. Both are cold blooded and would be nice additions to our team, especially for outside shooting.

brooks is not jones
Pure shooter=Brooks
Freaky athleticism=Jones

Neither are legit nba points.

no thanks
i can't see aaron brooks fitting in with our team.  he'd be a defensive liability and isn't a true point.

guys like demetrius nichols and morris almond would be much better fits.

brooks
also has some good intangibles though, such as his amazing propensity to hit clutch shots...it's always good to have your role players be able to stroke a clutch 3...if you're gonna run an inside-outside offense with oden/LMA and roy you'd generally want whoever you're plugging in at your 1 and 3 to be good, coldblooded outside shooters, ala D-Fish and the Rick Fox/Brian Shaw combination back on those lakers championship teams i hated so much (obviously this overlooks Horry, whose clutch 3's aren't gonna be provided by lamarcus, so such a quality is all the more important in your PG and SF

This is why i think we should hang on to Martell as well--he'll have more time to shoot with oden inside and roy slashing, we can kick out and swing it around the perimeter and let webster get his feet set in the corner ala bruce bowen type. He can hit those if he gets his confidence right

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
