2006 draft class vs 2007 draft class
Here's a hypothetical exercise, but first a little background: At the 2006 NCAA tourney, Washington vs UCONN game, Brandon Roy became my choice for our draft pick. And to me, he will still be THE MAN on the Blazers even with Oden or Durant (or Aldridge).
That said, if he were being drafted in the 2007 draft (based on the 2006 draft scouting/buzz), I would project him to be available at the 14th to 18th spot this year.
Using the same assumptions, I'd guess that Aldridge would be jostling for position with Branden Wright and Al Horford (3rd to 6th this year)and Sergio could be anywhere between 28 and 40.
And how about other 2006 rooks? Bargnani? Thomas? Morrison? Gay?
And what about Jack, Martell, Outlaw? I'm thinking all three would be second rounders this year.
Which brings me to the secondary point of this diary: the four second round Blazer picks in this draft are more likely to produce good players than in future second rounds.
So, if you can remember back to last year's draft buzz about our young players throw a guess out as to where they would be picked this year. And what 2007 second round players might be better than Jack, Outlaw and Martell.

Excellent angle on the subject
I don't know the answer to that question.
If you are correct, it becomes both an argument for trading (some or all of) them and for keeping (some or all of) them. We could keep them and shore up through developing more players, or trade the picks for quality back-up(s)/ (maybe) starter(s).
Anybody out there familiar with the likely second rounders of the 2007 draft?

Freshman class
Yi is the only international showing up as a lottery lock. Usually there is some 7-footer at 15 from East Podunkistan for the Sonics to pick up. Not this year - those guys are floating around in the mid-second.
Also, where are the head cases at? Other than Sean Williams (early second), where are those guys that jump out of the building literally and figuratively? The guy that makes fans say "risk it, our no-nonsense coach can change him into a pillar of the community"? I'm not reading about any of them.
Try this one: where would Durant have gone last year? Oden would have been auto at #1, but did any one know Durant?
All that makes me think that KP might be able to upgrade some roster spots by looking hard at the second round. I'm sure he's on it though.

my thoughts
Aldridge: Had Aldridge attended his junior season there is no doubt in my mind he would be a top 5 pick IN THIS DRAFT. I think Memphis would grab him at #4.
Sergio: 2nd round, but upper half, possibly Golden State at #36, and if not, then Portland at #37.
Webster: Tough to say cause who knows what he would of done in college. I think had he gone for 2 seasons we could be looking at a late 1st round pick. I think he'd be a good pick for San Antonio at #28, because I think he's a younger Michael Finley, and Finley would be a good tutor for him.
Jack: Round 2: San Antonio at #33, or Philly at 38.
Outlaw: I would of loved to have seen a NCAA outlaw. Who knows what his game would be like. I think we could be talking about a mid-late 1st. But based on NBA version, I say 2nd round, and I say New Jersey at #46.
Now for other players..
Adam Morrison would fall drastically I believe, like brady quinn, to late first. Houston or Utah at #25 and 26 is my prediction.
Rudy Gay: Was for long a consensus 2006 #1 pick. I say he goes #7 to Minnesota.
Tyrus Thomas: #10 to Sacremento.
Andrea Bargnani: #12 Philadelphia
Randy Foye: #15 to Detroit..
