Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

What did you do when we won?

  1. I punched the ceiling and now my hand is pretty bloody.
  2. I called 5 people on my cellular.
  3. I watched the proceedings 3 times.
What did you do?

i yelled at my brother and wife
they don't follow nba and have no idea why i blew up.  hell, i was jumping around and running in circles when they skipped 6.  it definitely felt like we were dreaming when we came in 1.  wow.  i spent the next few minutes rambling spastically at my wife and bro to explain the significance, and called anyone who would care or maybe partially understand.

sick as a dog...
but not now!! well, actually, im still sick... but the #1 pick the best remedy!

I laid in my bed with covers clenched over my chin. Surprisingly, I've got my Cubbies sweatshirt on... no bad luck there! I like to live on the edge. I even forced myself to actually dream today of getting the #1 pick. I always think it's going to jinx us (in our 4 year lottery history)... so I went against conventianal wisdom and let myself dream. New era twin towers... or, Durant on the break with Sergio leading... I let the imagination go. As I became increasingly sick with the flu I held on for dear life so I could see it all unfold. My heart literally skipped 2 beats as the 6th pick did not reveal the scarlett and black. Got the fever, cold sweats, heart beating... commerical break. Then comes the announcement... a healthy YES! as the 3rd pick reveals the Hawks... then... in my shaking induced sweat, looking The Natural right in the eye.... the reveals the Sonics... out of my death bed and up roaring like lion. The flu is gone! (not really, but I'm as perky as a sick dog can be.

phew... now I need to rest and let the dreams become reality.

I ran around my apartment a few times
then opened up a bot of some mighty fine Pacific Northwest microbrew to celebrate.

Jumped up, screamed, ran outside and screamed...
...Went back in and screamed...

...noticed all the crap in my condo I knocked over when I was screaming...

...then screamed as I cleaned it up.

I was...
Sitting in the graduate community center here on campus and screamed at 3 separate times: when we got passed at 6, when Atlanta came up at #3 and when Seattle came up at #2.  Needless to say, the people socializing nearby looked at me funny.

Then I called my dad.

Standing in front of the tv I yelled
Yes! with every pick beginning with nine, each "yes" getting louder and louder and the fist pump getting more pronounced and the heartbeat increasing. By the time they announced pick #3 I was thinking of calling 911.  When my heart slowed down I called my grandson, but nobody answered so I've only shared it with my cats who don't care. So back to Blazersedge where people DO care.

My mom was ready to call a psychiatric hospital and told me not to jump so hard because we cannot afford to fix a hole in the floor (meaning, she thought I was gonna stomp through to the first floor).

heh heh
I stared disbelieving at my computer screen, got tears in my eyes, gave a Tiger Woods fist pump, and then tried to explain why this was so signifigent to my Japanese wife who doesn't follow basketball at all.
Shan was eloquent/Kris was intelligent/ the R was all the above with added elements.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
