Barkley Hearts Roy

The TNT crew was just discussing the All-Star voting, and the Round Mound expressed his disgust McGrady was  #2 in the West, and said something about fan voters knowing as much about basketball as his dogs do.

He said Kobe should be #1 in the West (he is), then Steve Nash, then Brandon Roy.

(they were talking about guards).

Barkley, even before backing Roy, was my favorite television basketball commentator, and this just solidifies it.

Hmm, I wonder if McGrady's votes came with Yao's.
I think this is an extreme possibility.  Lucky him!

B Roy should be making it this year.  But oh well..

Was Damon really a bad Blazer, or did he get the short end of the stick?

Fan voting only
counts for the starting lineup.  The coaches usually do a pretty good job of cleaning it up.  If the blazers continue to hold onto a playoff spot and Roy continues to be the driving force, I think they will put him in(at least the coaches who have played us should).  But that is a lot of IFS and the blazers were snubbed just last year when Stern put Okur(17pts and 8rbs)on a winning team in the game over Zach(23 and 10)on a losing team.

Roy
is a much cleaner character and well liked. I don't think Stern would make the same decision, if it was Roy involved.

If McGrady is voted #2
Doesn't that put him in the game, thus depriving a more deserving candidate (assuming he wouldn't be put in by coaches)?

That assumes McGrady plays
with his injuries (or injury history) it may be a moot point anyway.

Stern snubbed Zach last year...
Probably because the All-Star game was in Vegas.  Imagine Zach and Pacman in the club together.  The NBA doesn't want any more bad pub. Guns and $$$ baby!

top west guards
Kobe,Nash,CP3,Manu

The 5th spot could go to Roy, D. Williams, Baron Davis or Tony Parker and it would be hard to complain too loudly.

Roy's got an outside shot but he'll likely need someone to sit out with an injury.

If we have a better record than GS and Utah
Roy will be a shoo-in.  I don't see Tony Parker as a lock at all, Manu either.

Just looked
Roy's numbers are better than either Ginobili or Parker.

by robrun2 on Dec 27, 2007 11:14 PM PST up reply actions

I dont want to do the numbers
but I am guessing that Manu blows Roy away in per minute stats, as he probably blows away 99% of the league in per minute stats.

GD here it goes

per 40 minute stats

Manu        Roy

PPG 26.0    20.4

RPG 6.4     4.8

APG 6.0     6.0

SPG 2.2     1.1

BPG 0.6     0.2

Got the stats from nba.com. As you can see Manu has both a sweeter name (I encourage you to over pronounce the u to great effect; cite JE Skeets for this.) and some wicked per 40 minute stats.

That being said Manu is not the focal point of his team and can be very aggressive as he gets his rest thanks to his super awesome team. Also, Manu is in his prime, while Roy is years away from his.

That said I still think Roy deserves an all star nod if there is an injury.

I'm pretty sure
A 35 game winning streak will get him there.

Book it!

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
