Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Merry Christmas! What Are Your Plans This Year?

Preparing a gag gift for a friend who is a Laker fan, I was cutting out pictures from a few issues of "Rip City" and came across a feature "Holiday Traditions" in the December 6th issue 3.3.  It was really cool to see how many Blazers spoke of family coming to their house for Christmas this year: Jarrett Jack, Sergio Rodriguez, LaMarcus Aldridge, Josh McRoberts, and Martell Webster.

My family is not so spread out except for my son who is in the Army and will be here for Christmas. It will be especially sweet as he deploys to Iraq early in January.  So, I am trying to clean, and cook, and work on the my Christmas Day banner for the Sonics Game.  (The matchup is a particular rivalry for me)  I hope everyone has a safe, happy, and wonderfully satisfying holiday.

Hey,
I will be thinking about your son in the coming year.  Nothing can really fill the days until he comes home again but maybe Blazersedge and the team can be a nice distraction.

Thanks, Dave
Prayers are welcome.  I'm really proud of him and truly comforted by his training and his focus on his training. He's grown now and probably won't be returning to my care. I miss him terribly, but I am enjoying the empty nest. Follwing the team including Blazersedge is a fun and exciting distraction.

Have Yourself a Very Merry Christmas
It's that time of the year.

I will hug my children, whisper in their ear
Tell them that I love them and that they are very dear
Let them know I believe in them and that they will always be near

Please also convey my thanks
to your son for serving us in this time of national need. It is a noble task and we are all better off for his work.

My Christmas tradition is being home alone (Sisters) while the rest of the family converges on Wilsonville. I cannot travel but it does mean I can watch the Blazers and eat hot dogs! Shhh don't tell anyone about the hot dogs!

Christmas Eve Dinner
We had a ham dinner for ten tonight.  I hope yours are brats or real good sausage dogs.  With sauerkraut.  That would be a worthy Christmas dinner. We had fun. A lot of family came and a couple who are like an honorary aunt and uncle.  I hadn't cooked for a crowd for quite a long while.  My daughter had a rough night of it.  Her boyfriend is a Marine currently deployed in Iraq.  My friend (who goes to Blazer games with me- the above mentioned friend of the family) and I had sent him a huge box of home baked cookies.  He took a picture  standing next to the stacked containers of cookies. The stack was as tall as he is. Ha ha.  He played Santa passing them out.  My son leaves for his base back east in the morning and for Iraq in less than 2 weeks.  It's pretty calm there now reletively speaking, and I'm not borrowing trouble. I am real proud of him.  I believe the terrorists are not engaging us here because they are busy with our troops there.  So, I am grateful the troops are willing to stand in the breach, and truly thankful to have my son home this one important evening.  This was the first Christmas without my dad, and it would have been very difficult to miss both of them. My nephew and I are going to the Christmas day game tomorrow. I made a banner out of glittery red felt.

Merry Christmas
I'm going to open up presents, then take my dog to the beach.  At 3:00 PM HST, my wife and I will watch the Blazers game.  Then we will have friends, who have no family in Hawai'i, over for dinner.  I think my wife is making lamb.

I've had quite a few friends go to Iraq and Afghanistan.  One guy is in the Army band, so I'm not sure what he does over there.  They all have been fine, best of luck to you and yours this coming year.

Happy Holidays and Mele Kalikimaka!

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
