The wife is a blazer fan
The biggest difference for me this year is how the wife enjoys the games with me. Now, the wife has no interest in sports and generally prefers that I do something productive with my time.
Last year Z-bo had a game winning shot... she didn't care. This year Travis hits the game winner & she almost dropped the baby while hollering. This change for her is that we have likable players.
I've got a long ways to go before she joins blazersedge, but I also never thought I would come home to see her watching the pre-game show.

you know
Also "she's as big of a fan as I am" and "she likes the blazers, but hasn't become a fanatic yet."
The girl I'm dating likes the blazers but is currently living the game through me. The fever hasn't caught yet, though I suspect that will change when I fly into town and take her to two games over christmas.

Indoctrination underway
I still think the Blazers should make a more concerted effort to educate would-be fans about the intricacies of the game rather than assume they understand what is being said.

Two broadcasts would be necessary
Unfortunately, I think personal lessons, like you're giving, are the way to go. Life is never that easy. It's akin to taking a beginner skiing. It makes it impossible to enjoy yourself (I'd almost rather go to work).

Great diary subject!
But something started to change during the whole Oden-drafting process. I started explaining to her the Blazer's history, and how this lottery pick is so huge. I started explaining to her about how we're such a young team, and how KP cleaned house to radically transform the Jail Blazers into the gem of a team they are now. And you know what? Next thing I know, she's watching games with me and GOING CRAZY!!
Now she knows all the players by name (first and last) 1-12 and is even starting to know their playing tendencies and styles. The thing with her though, more than me, is that she gets very protective of the players and worries about their feelings. That's why I can't let her read these blogs; she loves Jack especially and if she read some of the hate he gets when he's struggling she'd get pissed! (Even though even she is starting to realize that he needs to learn to pass more on the fast break.)
Anway, one thing my wife also, like yours, said is that she thinks the Blazer players are just so dang likeable. I couldn't agree more.
Oh, and here's something that should encourage you all. When she was an LA team sports fan, she was a curse to her teams. Virtually every L*ker or Dodger game she'd watch they'd lose, to the point where her friends would ask her not to watch. Last year when the Cavaliers went to the Finals, I was rooting for the Cavs and got her sold on the whole LeBron thing. So she decided to cheer for LeBron in the finals and guess what? Swept. This year I had her watch one football game with me. I'm a Packers fan. She watched the Bears-Packers games. Naturally, the Packers lost (which was their ONLY loss until that Cowboys loss like a couple weeks back).
Thus it was a risk to invite her to watch the Blazer games this year. But you know what? Almost every game she's watched they've WON. It's a weird experience for her because she's so used to cheering and being disappointed. If the Blazers can withstand the curse my wife brings with her, they MUST be something special!

None of the above
For Tweener who doesn't know me ... I'm female, with no spouse or SO and don't live with my parents, so none of your answers fit. But I'm enjoying the comments.
And FWIW, the phrase "the wife" grates on me - it is so impersonal. Of course you wouldn't title it "Esmeralda is a fan", but at least "MY wife" elevates her above "the cleaning lady".

Didn't mean to leave you out Jorga
Without you finally winning the espn.com lottery simulation we wouldn't have got the # 1 pick :)
