Yet another injury, what's going on?

Jason Quick reports that McRoberts is out for a while now too:

McRoberts  out after bad ankle sprain

So now we have: Oden, Miles, Roy and McRoberts all out for what figures to be the entire preseason, and Jones is iffy with his knee. A whole ten healthy players going into the season isn't exactly the greatest scenario.

What do we attribute this to? Change in the weather? Some sort of curse? Our players being so awesome that they've been working out for over a month before training camp even began?

Doesn't seem like we can catch a break lately. What happened to the karma? And who's next?

Holy mack.
Sarbonis, you're totally right: we CAN'T catch a break.
Dave, you may want to speed up that 'curse ceremony', already. This isn't starting to look too good. I mean, what's our home opener gonna look like? <shivers>

We can attribute this to...
Overreactive fans that are freaking out over little things. McRoberts wasnt going to get a ton of playing time to begin with and if it were the season Roy and Jones would be out there.

Oden is the only blow but what sucks is that once he was injured people start thinking that we are "cursed,"  "jinked," "snakebit" etc..

The only things that keep curses going are the people that still believe in them, they overreact about the bad news and downplay the good news.

It seems that the amazing high we got when we got the #1 pick was wiped out when Oden went down, as if he ad died and will never play a minute for the Blazers.

Anybody who is freaking out just check this out and remember how you felt.

PS: Miles who?

I agree
Besides needing his body in practice, there is nothing wrong with McRoberts having a minor injury.  I mean as long as they don't get a doctors with a diploma from some school in the Philippines.  He'll be fine and the Blazers will be fine.

True words
for the most part. But let's not get too defensive here, I don't think anyone's 'freaking out.' I thought it was worth mentioning that we seem to be getting more than our fair share of injuries, albeit apparently minor ones, and some not to key players. It helps to have a full roster in practice though, let's be honest.

It's alright to have a little bit of fun here, as that is the whole point of this, and sports in general. I'm still super excited to watch the team this year, as before.

And yeah, 'Miles who?' is pretty apt... but it would be nice to have a healthy roster, no?

Oden, Miles, Roy and
McRoberts.  But you forgot one, Jones.

I actually didn't forget Jones...
...because he's mentioned too. But I'll forgive you.

Blazers are baiting teams...
in to a false sense of expectations.  After reading ESPN's report of the Blazers web site anouncing that Roy is out for the preseason, I realized that this is all a cunning ploy by Pritchard and McMillan to ge the Blazers overlooked in the early games to still some wins.  Beacuse we all know that nobody, that is not a die hard fan is paying any attention to us now that our two key players are "out". McRoberts, Jones, and Miles are jsut added gravy to red herring plan so that people think we are getting minimal practice time due to lack of bodies now that workouts have officially started.  Come game one we'll have a healthy squad minus Oden and Miles and Blazers will come out of nowhere and kick butt.

Roy missing preseason IS a problem
Far be it from me to join the Chicken Little chorus.  Injuries like Jones' and McRoberts' happen to every team during pre-season and beyond.  Those are almost certainly minor injuries to reserve players.

But contrary to the reassuring talk issuing out of Blazer headquarters, having Roy miss most or all of training camp and the exhibition season IS a big deal.  Veteran teams can afford to coast (or limp) thru the preseason.  But the Blazers are as young and unfamiliar with each other as you can get.  In order to get off on the right foot (pardon the pun) this year, they badly needed to have their quarterback on hand for the preseason.

Even in a best case scenario, where Roy is able to nurse his heel thru the upcoming season without missing too many practices or games, this is a real setback. Remember that extended practice time is very difficult to come by during the regular season.

Agreed
I'm a glass full kind of guy, but Roy missing preseason is not a good thing.  What bothers me about it is that he was resting over the summer.  Someone one year into the NBA should not need the amount of time off we've seen Roy get, he's not a vet, even if he plays as well as some.  As for Oden: of course I want him to play as badly as he wants to play, but I still would have picked him.  McRoberts: I agree with the comments, not that big a deal since he was likely to play very, very little.  Jones, depends on what his importance is to this team I suppose, and I don't know what that will be, also it sounds like he's likely to be just fine.

I really wish that Roy had the surgery over the summer, unlike Oden's situation this was not a surprise, it was an issue last year and they had him skip summer league to recover, why not operate then?  I know it isn't a sure thing that this would have fixed his heel problem, but if it wasn't risky either I think it was worth a go, I know hindsight is 20/20, but I would have recommended this at draft time as well had I known that the plans were for him to not attend summer league unless there is something big I'm missing (like there were high chances of him not coming back if he were to get the surgery and the chances of success were low).

McLovin' was brought here to have GO's back
He's sacrificing his own physical well being, following Greg to the bench to offer his support.

Everyone is forgetting
They have all been playing together for a few weeks.  I doubt Nate had his head in the sand while everyone was working out and playing together.

Agreed
That's huge.  Informal as they might have been, those workouts were better than nothing.  Still, a lot of our optimism was based on the team being able to BUILD on those workouts during training camp and the exhibition games.  Now, with Roy out, that opportunity is significantly diminished.
