I'm not sure if I love or hate just out of touch the national media is with our Blazers squad. It's been enlightening at least: when preparing for my fantasy draft last night, I dug into team blogs as much as time allowed, as opposed to relying on national writers (had a damn good draft BTW).
Anyway, two writers whom I like, in the past two days have had ludicrous things to say about our young team.
Marc Stein, in his power rankings, dropped the Blazers three spots from his pre-training camp rankings, and simply cites that the team may be cursed, with a Bowie quote to back him up. Did he watch any preseason games?
Bill Simmons lists Portland as one of only 3 teams in the league he doesn't want to see this year, and predicts 22 wins and a 29th place finish.
So Simmons is going to miss the 'black hole' Randolph ball in PDX?
Or does he just see Zach's stat line gone, and like most pundits, questions where we'll find offense?
I think most of us at BE have gotten caught up in the preseason glow of our team, and struggle to manage expectations for their success. But if nothing else, I know the Blazers will be fun to watch. And there's no way in hell they don't win more than 30 games. And like most of us, I believe they have a chance to do considerably better than that.
So the question: do you love or hate how misinformed the national media is re: your team?
