Luke Jackson as a Blazer SF?

Yesterday, Yahoo NBA Rumors indicated Oregon's own Luke Jackson could be cut from the Toronto Raptors as they are one man over regular-season roster limits. NBA.com has him listed as a Forward-Guard, while Yahoo has him as a Small Forward. With his Eugene ties, us still needing a SF, and KP's tendency towards regional players, anyone have thoughts on him as a potential answer to this?

I dunno,
I think Luke Jackson might just not be that good.  I haven't paid that close attention, but it seems like he's been cut from a number of teams now.

hmm
To do so we would have to cut somebody, correct? Due to that, I dont see that happening. I'm sure there are lots of players KP would like to sign right now (as he mentioned in regards to Ellis), but is unable to as we are at 15 players.

Luke Jackson
is not better than any of our small forwards.  He was a great fit in Toronto last year, even earning a few minutes in the playoffs.  If he gets cut from that team (which as I said, he is a good fit for), it probobly means he just isn't very good.

Haven't seen him lately
Luke Jackson. Good skills, very athletic but kind of soft and easily intimidated. He played pretty well for the Raps near the end of last season. But before that he was hurt a lot. When I saw him play for the Cavs a couple years ago it looked like he was getting tossed around like a rag doll. He might have bulked up a bit. But coming out of college he was kind of skinny and his shot wasn't good enough to overcome his physical deficiencies.

After his back surgery he had to make some serious adjustments. Maybe he can still adapt to the NBA and make a solid contribution to somebody's team. That somebody is not the Blazers though. They're not gonna take on another borderline SF. And hopefully the Blazers' SF woes are resolved now that Webby has gone transcendental and found himself.

I like the guy
I love Jackson, but I can't see the Blazers dropping someone for him.

No way he is an improvement
on the guys we have. In addition I remember KP saying we were going to play with these 15 guys for awhile to see what we have.

WE can take him if.....
I like Jackson for what he is. A shooter. He never was one for playing defense or anything physical for that matter. If we do bring hime in it should be with low expectations. He can score in the right situation (off screens, catch and shoot), but he is injury prone. He has kind of become a forgotten top 10 draft pick because he has had the back injuries, etc. I say if we can get him to come in for the roster exception that was given for GO's injury, and he'll take the 2.3 mil available (non-guaranteed) I say we do it. Worse case is he get's cut again. Best case is we get another "Ime" story and a high character guy. In short, he COULD be the shooter we've been looking for OR he could be an inexpensive experiment in good will.

I believe that one of the conditions of the
exception is that Portland would have to cut a player to make room for the exception signee.

Intriguing suggestion
Bringing him in under the exception we got for GO is an intriguing suggestion. Still no way would the Blazers do this, though. If they use the GO exception it'll be for a low post player. The whole idea of Luke Jackson ever donning a Blazers uniform strikes me as whimsical.

I love Luke Jackson
but, much like Joey Harrington, you just have to think that he's just not a very good pro.  While I would want him for sentimental reasons, for basketball reasons, I'm not sure that I would want to cut anyone on our team for him.  Well, other than Darius, but that's not going to happen.

I have Jackson's...
cell phone number, I met him earlier this year when he was playing for the D-league, Idaho Stampede. If I had any guts I would send him a text messages and ask him if he's heard anything from Portland or any other teams. But, that's IF I had any guts.

These comments amuse me
1.)  We have no room.
2.)  EVERY player we have is better
3.)  Just because a player is local does not mean he should play for our team.

There are going to be a lot of guys available
in a couple of days.

I'm not sure why, but it seems to me that it's become even harder than ever to make an NBA roster.  There seem to be quite a few guys who, if given the chance, are good enough to play in the NBA.  Houston just let go of a guy named Mike Harris, who, according to Houston fans and sports writers, showed a lot of promise.  New York is almost sure to cut Demetreus Nichols, the guy Portland traded to them for a future pick.  This guy has done nothing but put up impressive performances, in pre-draft camps, summer league and Knick's preseason games.  The guy can flat out shoot.  There is just no room for him in New York.  Freddie Jones may get the axe as well.

I really wish the NBA would develop a minor league, with each team having it's own development system.  Places like Boise, Spokane, Tri-Cities, Bend or Eugene should be big enough to support a team that had specific ties to the Blazers, Sonics and Jazz.  It would also be a way to expand the fan base.

Living outside of Portland, I'd go see a Blazer minor league team that had Z. Hamilton, Chris Ellis, Nichols and Ha Seung (and Luke Jackson).  One were a Josh McRoberts and either Green or Rodriguez saw a lot of playing time.  Where a player rehabbing from injury (Miles for example) could play a few games to work off the rust.

Eugene minor league Blazers
Sounds like a great idea to me. I'd definitely watch a few games if the minor league Blazers played in Eugene.
