It's been almost a month since I've been able to sit down and read some BE because my new job requires a 3+hr round trip commute, cutting into my Blazer fix. Luckily for my sanity, the wife's out of town this weekend, so I could be manly and have a sports binge day.
I had an entire day of sports and sport food. Starting with internet Blazer news taken through an I.V. USB cable. I just about went blind trying to get caught back up, but I feel so shorted having missed out on the real-time experience. In a moment of inspiration, I set up a fantasy basketball team named "Oden Minutes" at exactly 2PM (the draft is actually later). Since I actually want to win, I'll draft Oden with my final pick. It seems like a good enough excuse to get some time online in the evening again. In addition to basketball, I also got to see football.
I got to catch some of the best college football I've ever witnessed today. Not typically being a big college game fan, I was truely riveted today. LSU's stunning loss to Kentucky in triple OT was a great game. All the while, I was seeing the Oregon score keep climbing in their rout of WA State. More basketball was needed though, and while I was man-surfing the chanels (ie fast), I noticed that League Pass has a free sample going on. The Sonics @ Pacers was on.
Although the game wasn't in HD (a true must now that I've seen the difference), it's basketball, and I haven't had any in months. Besides, I wanted to see Durant and Jeff Green, and it was the right price...free. FYI, there's two more games being aired tomorrow night, neither is Portland. I'll say this about the game, it made me appreciate our broadcast team. I ended up muting the game, so I could enjoy it in silence. Game notes: Kevin Durant and Jeff Green are going to be good. Shhh...don't tell anyone ;)
For my Blazer thoughts, I'll wait until we've played a game post-bad-juju. Now that Dave's exorcised the demons, I'm expecting a rout of Atlanta. Doesn't it strike anyone else as ironic that we need a starting SF, and Atlanta seems to have an entire roster of them? Did these guys ever meet a 6' 9" guy they didn't sign?
Since I'm not commenting on the past games, there's only one thing I really want to see tomorrow, and that is Martel proving me wrong. In the past I've said he should be traded to make room for talent rather than potential, and he has the chance to make me regret those comments. Of course this is still only a pre-season game, but the games are important enough that they keep score, so they must be important enough to win. I'd love to see Martel mature to a point this season that the Martel vs. Rudy Fernandez as backup SG debate starts early. At 6'7", Martel isn't a good fit for the SF position, IMO. A tall backcourt of Roy and Webster might be interesting. Roy's penetrating ability with Martel's 3pt stroke.
