Are you gonna join us (mostly me) again?

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 12:32 AM PST reply actions

I can't this weekend.
Although I would LOVE to.  I very much enjoy it.  I hope maybe on one of next week's games I can be here.

I do hope other people will fill in though.  It's too much fun to miss.

I'm excited about the McGrady/Udoka matchup. Plus we should be able to dominate the inside.

Any TO news???
I think he's our only real chance of slowing T-Mac down...

Still not available
The ankle is still bothering him.  And it's almost certain at this point that when he does come back he'll take a while to get into condition.

I like Outlaw
for what he could give us on the break tonight but I don't think he could do much to slow down T-Mac.  When he is focused, Tracy is one of the toughest defense assignments in the league.

Woah
Zach to Canzano: "I want to be here."

Canzano just said that Zach wants to be with Portland on 1080TheFan.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 5:36 PM PST reply actions

huh
thats unexpected.  I always thought he was playing well this year in order to get out.

by JPop on Jan 26, 2007 5:39 PM PST reply actions

Guess not
Zach saw Canzano in the hall after John wrote his "Trade Zach" column, and Zach said, "why are you writing that bs? I don't want to go anywhere."

Granted, Canzano told him that Zach has become everything he hoped he would be, but in order for this franchise to move forward, Zach has to go.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 5:41 PM PST up reply actions

Thing is
Zach has become so offensively solid that I no longer want to see him go for pennies on the dollar.  I would want equal value for a guy who is throwing up 23 and 10 night in and night out.  No reason to rush into a bad deal, lets just see how it plays out with the playoff bound teams.

by JPop on Jan 26, 2007 5:47 PM PST reply actions

Agreed
Agreed!  I don't like him, but he's talented and we should get SOMETHING!

I love the players we have because i feel like they really want to be here and turn our team around.

Haha
AWESOME. Joel drove it into Mutumbo and force a blocking foul. Joel for 2 on the line.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 5:48 PM PST reply actions

Wow
Joel hits two very good looking FT.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 5:48 PM PST reply actions

Erh
Zach, don't run the break by yourself.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 5:49 PM PST reply actions

HAHAH
Typical Dikembe. Travels like nobodies business and argues it.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 5:54 PM PST reply actions

HAHAH
Second foul on Mutumbo and he argues that, too. Gee.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 5:56 PM PST reply actions

CHYEA
14-4 Portland run. 16-14 Portland.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 5:57 PM PST reply actions

Nice
Joel still & Brandon...

by drawingjeremy on Jan 26, 2007 5:57 PM PST reply actions

oopf
Sloppy play the past minute or so. Portland had a rebound secured and lost it, then Jack turns it over on a bad entry pass.

No points were scored though.

And this feels lonely.

Howard misses his first FT. Aldridge in for Joel.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 5:59 PM PST reply actions

Wow
Howard a 89% FT shooter misses both badly.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 5:59 PM PST reply actions

Heh
Howard has two fouls by running over Jack.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 5:59 PM PST reply actions

This game turned ugly real quick.

6th Rocket turnover, and JVG gets whistled for a T. Randolph converts.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:06 PM PST reply actions

HAHAH
YES! Webster blocks a straight jumpshot on Bonzi, and then Bonzi commits an offensive foul for his second!

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:09 PM PST reply actions

Wooh
Great D by Aldridge on Battier.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:09 PM PST reply actions

After
After one, Portland up 20-19 after trailing 10-2 early.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:10 PM PST reply actions

OOH
Battier hits the side of the backboard on a 3, Jamaal blocks Chuck Hayes on a layup attempt.

Erhm
Jamaal commits an offensive foul.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:15 PM PST reply actions

Wow
Webster playing incredible D on BOOOnzi.

If Portland hit half their shots, they'd be up 10-15pts.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:20 PM PST reply actions

CHYEA
Aldridge is back. He is making his shots tonight, and it is beautiful.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:21 PM PST reply actions

Uhm
ROTATE MAGLOIRE. He just let Bonzi drive it in.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:22 PM PST reply actions

Ge
Chuck Hayes just outrebounded 4 Blazers in the paint.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:23 PM PST reply actions

WOW
Zach just gets hit on the arm around the rim and nothing.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:24 PM PST reply actions

Haha
Jamaal makes a bucket and gets fouled, misses the FT, gets his miss, Portland misses the shot, Jamaal gets the rebound again, and Jamaal gets an aggressive rebound and gets fouled.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:28 PM PST reply actions

HAHAH
Jack penetrates with time running down, dishes it to Jamaal, and Jamaal throws it down!

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:28 PM PST reply actions

Did mags
just get 3 bds and draw two fouls in the last 20 aseconds???

by webted on Jan 26, 2007 6:29 PM PST reply actions

Eghafsh
And he ruins it all by not rotating over to stop Bonzi. Bonzi has 10 in the quarter.

following
the game on espn gamecast.  looks like somebody woke up Jamaal

by JPop on Jan 26, 2007 6:30 PM PST reply actions

I didn't think this was possible: Luther Head airballs a 3.

Roy for 2!

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:34 PM PST reply actions

Hrmm
Ime has 3PF. Portland keeping T-Mac in check after his hot start. T-Mac misses 2FT.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:36 PM PST reply actions

down
by two at the half.  All things considered, thats not bad

by JPop on Jan 26, 2007 6:38 PM PST reply actions

Erhm
Ugly basketball at its... finest?

36-34 Houston at the half.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:40 PM PST reply actions

Gotta like the score
Keeping Houston down to 36 is definitely a success with regards to Nate's game plan.

For those of you actually watching the game (I'm on gamecast): is this really a grind it out halfcourt game, or just a lot of poor execution and shooting?

by webted on Jan 26, 2007 6:40 PM PST reply actions

To me it
is poor execution.  lots of turnovers.
It wasn't the first time I'd been kicked in the cherries and called a rat by a woman, but it was the first time I didn't mind.

by shenanigans on Jan 26, 2007 6:43 PM PST reply actions

we got
a better chance of winning that kind of game.  Make a scrap and hustle affair of it and guys like Bonzi will wilt down the stretch

by JPop on Jan 26, 2007 6:47 PM PST reply actions

Ouch
I just looked at the shooting percentages..  Kind of answers my question.  35% vs. 38% field, 20% vs 33% 3-pt, 78 vs. 17% FTs (us vs. them).  Other than that, we're giving up 7 more boards, but otherwise it's pretty even.

by webted on Jan 26, 2007 6:48 PM PST reply actions

Wooh
Beautiful seal off by Joel and great feed by Jack for a bucket and a foul. Joel converts the FT.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:55 PM PST reply actions

CHYEA
Brandon steals a rebound, and then hits a 2.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:56 PM PST reply actions

HAHAH
YEA JOEL. Joel going up against Mutumbo, face to face. Get that mean streak on, boy!

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:56 PM PST reply actions

Wow
Gee. Mutumbo flops miserably and gets a foul called. That was BS.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:57 PM PST reply actions

Whoa
Loose ball foul on Joel, I don't see it. 3PF on Joel.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 6:58 PM PST reply actions

Heh
Howard fouls Jack up top, 4PF.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:00 PM PST reply actions

Eek
Przy rolls to the hoop for a dunk and gets rejected by Mutumbo.

T-Mac fouled on a 3pt by Jack, barely touched him.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:01 PM PST reply actions

Hahah
T-Mac bricking his first two badly. Makes third.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:02 PM PST reply actions

Uhm
Unbelievable. This man cannot miss. Ime is right up on him, hand in face, everything, and he still makes it.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:03 PM PST reply actions

Egh
Battier hits a 3. Houston up 8.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:07 PM PST reply actions

AAAAAHHH
Another 3 by Battier. 11point lead.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:08 PM PST reply actions

just sat down
and started watching.  And the Rockets lead by eleven

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:09 PM PST reply actions

STUPID JACK
DAMMIT JACK. STOP THAT JUMP PASS.

Luckily he got it back on the defensive end.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:09 PM PST reply actions

:A(S
13point lead. Queue Juan. Aldridge travels.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:10 PM PST reply actions

WOW
T-Mac getting 3 more FT, Martell fouls him at the 3pt line.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:11 PM PST reply actions

gotta cut into the lead
before the 4th.  Single digits please.  Who'll step up?  Anybody, anybody? Dixon?  Roy?  Bueeeler?

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:12 PM PST reply actions

Oopfas
T-Mac only got 2FT. He hits both. 15point lead.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:14 PM PST reply actions

WTF?
Is the Rocket mascot some sort of bloated Care Bear?  Just caught a glimpse of him running off the floor carrying a cheerleader.  Just imagine what the kids will look like!

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:14 PM PST reply actions

WOW
Another shot-clock violation. 14TO for Portland.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:15 PM PST reply actions

Game over
Ralfer to T-Mac for an alley oop. 17pt lead.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:15 PM PST reply actions

No!
quick jumper, no movement.  Why, Roy?

Mutumbo at the line

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:16 PM PST reply actions

FOR F's SAKES
Portland settling for jumpers, no BALL MOVEMENT AT ALL.

MOVE THE BALL. PLAY AS A TEAM. Houston isn't playing great D, Portland is just crumbling at the seams.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:16 PM PST reply actions

Wow
Long jumper, long jumper, long jumper. No rebounding, no boxing out, lazy defense, lazy offense, and T-Mac hits a 2 at the buzzer. Portland down 20.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:18 PM PST reply actions

why was
randolph nowhere near the paint?  They're all just taking turn shooting from the top of the key

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:19 PM PST reply actions

No
No ball movement. Guards playing tentative and not trying to get the ball in low to Zach. Guards were trying to beat Houston on their own, instead of sticking to the gameplan.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:22 PM PST up reply actions

if you told me
Portland allowed 66 points through 3, I'd think we were doing pretty good.  But it's Houston, and they're creaming us so bad the announcers are talking about Houston/Portland games from 20 years ago.

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:22 PM PST reply actions

Gee
Second unit has ball movement and getting in deep to the PF. But it is the wrong PF. Mags cannot post up worth crap.

23 point deficit.

by damir on Jan 26, 2007 7:24 PM PST reply actions

it's been
kind of a free throw shooting contest so far in the quarter.  Helps in not eating the clock, but seems weird for a 24 point differential.  At least we might see one team hit 100

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:29 PM PST reply actions

the rebound differential
makes me want to cry.  And this isn't even one of Mutumbo's fountain of youth 15-20 boards game

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:31 PM PST reply actions

I like
Sergio's shot a lot.  Very quick and straight, like a laser.

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:33 PM PST reply actions

Martell
Webster vs. the Houston Rockets
Not fair but he is BATTLING.
Too bad he is the only one.
It wasn't the first time I'd been kicked in the cherries and called a rat by a woman, but it was the first time I didn't mind.

by shenanigans on Jan 26, 2007 7:39 PM PST reply actions

only magliore and jack
are shooting above 50%.  Only 14 free throws attempted.  Zach only player in double digits

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:40 PM PST reply actions

No offense
and no defense make Homer go crazy

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:42 PM PST reply actions

I think
Houston is trying to stretch the lead to match Mutumbo's age.  This could get uglier.

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:46 PM PST reply actions

A mutumbo is old joke
just became the 100th comment.  Ohhh man, it's been one of those games...

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:47 PM PST reply actions

ball movement
has gotten semi decent, if turnover prone.

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:49 PM PST reply actions

I find it to be
A pretty big positive that the guys on the floor are trying hard.  I remember when these games just brought out bad attitudes and worse post game quotes

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:52 PM PST reply actions

Webster, Webster!
Now go show your stuff when we're not in garbage time

by supremepuntiff on Jan 26, 2007 7:53 PM PST reply actions
