Preview-less Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Phoenix

It's still Christmas (family time) as I write so we're going to dispense with the usual game preview for the Phoenix game.  They're one of the most popular and famous teams in the league anyway.  You know who they are already.  You know what they're likely to do to us.  You know a win would rank among the better accomplishments of the decade for us.  That's all you need, really.

So take a stab below at prognostication, in-game comments, post-game laments, and all kinds of wishful thinking.

close but no cigar...
I think the suns will hit a lull after thier long winning streak but I still don't think we have a shot. 101-92

Speaking strictly as a fan...
...I wouldn't expect Nate or the team to feel this way...

Friday's game was a "no-lose" affair.  If we won our win streak continued, which is good.  If we lost we learned a valuable lesson about coming to play every night and not taking practice (or other teams) for granted...also good.  Tonight's game, on the other hand, seems like a "no-win" affair.  If we lose, it was expected.  Nothing will be gained that we didn't already know going in.  If we win it won't be because we were the better team, it'll be because we got lucky or because Phoenix had a horrible effort (and I know that's been the opponents' standard line throughout the season but this time it'll be true).  I suppose you could salvage some kind of "we can beat anyone if we play right" sentiment, but really that experiment won't be repeatable.  If we had to turn around and play Phoenix again the next night we could play the exact same way and still get creamed by 30.  They are just way better than we are right now.

So as a fan I'm looking at tonight's contest as strictly entertainment.  I hope it's an exciting game.  If we win it'll be really exciting.  If I can't have excitement I'd settle for seeing some good basketball.  I'm not going to jump out a window or leap to the moon based on the outcome of the game either way.

Good luck tonight!
This is Dan from Bright Side of the Sun - the SBN Phoenix Suns blog.  Good luck tonight.  You guys have won 6 out of the past 10 so I'm hoping the Suns don't take the Blazers lightly.  I'm hoping it's a good game.

I agree with Dave that you guys are in a no-win situation tonight but good luck anyway!  My prediction: Phoenix 122, Portland 97

Dammit people, take the ball inside.

Then again, if you wear red and you sneeze, you'll get called for a foul in this quarter.

wow
Where was the contact? Where was the damn foul? As bad as the Blazers are playing, the refs are calling it worse.

ONE assist the entire first half in this game. That is the reason Portland is losing, along with the lack of penetration and ball movement (which directly affects the amount of assists that can be produced).

Assists
I can only follow this online since I'm out of town, but how could we be doing any better when Jack (our STARTING Point Guard) has 0 assists?  That said, I didn't expect us to win this one...Phoenix is too good (I hate to say that about a team with ugly-boy Steve Nash).

You'd think that you would see LaMarcus in this game when that damn stiff Magloire cannot get back on D in time. Jesus, Raja Bell just drove on him 3 times in a row and scored.

As good as Magloire has played the past few games, tonight is by far his worst.

Sorry guys...
Sorry they played so bad tonight.  I was actually worried that the Suns would take the Blazers lightly but they came out and played hard in the first half.  It didn't help that the Blazers shot so poorly from the 3 point line.  And in the game, the entire Blazers team had as many assists as Boris Diaw did.  And Diaw didn't even have double-digit assists!

Good luck in your next game.  The Blazers should have a semi-good year because they don't have to play the Suns every game.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
